What We Believe

What We Believe

EdgemontFrontEdgemont Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and so we believe that the Bible is God’s Word. Because of this, we submit to the Bible above all other teaching or sources of wisdom. For a much more complete and precise expression of what we believe the Bible teaches, you can examine the Westminster Confession of Faith (one of the church’s historic creeds) at our denomination’s website: http://www.pcaac.org/resources/wcf/. But for now, here’s a brief, simple, and admittedly incomplete summary of a few of the important things we believe:

  • About the Bible: We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and is the standard of God’s authority for every believer, and we believe it is without error in anything it teaches.
  • About mankind: We believe that all men are sinners in need of God’s mercy and redemption.
  • About Jesus: We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that he is divine. We believe that God the Father, out of love for sinners, gave Jesus as a sacrifice for sin so that whoever believes in him “will not perish but have everlasting life.” We believe that the Jesus is the ONLY sacrifice for sin that God provides, and therefore that believing in him is the only way to escape the just punishment of our sin, and the only way to enter into heaven. We believe that Jesus rose from the dead, that he has returned to God the Father, and that he will come again to earth to judge the living and the dead.
